Q: What kinds of things come in your CSA shares?
A: Veggies: carrots, beans, spinach, kale, greens, radish, beets, leeks, potatoes, snap peas, turnips, sweet peppers, hot peppers, ground cherries, tomatillos, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, tomatoes, romanesco, kohlrabi, onions, cucumber, squash, zucchini, asparagus, celery, garlic
Herbs: dill, basil, oregano, mint, lemongrass, sage, thyme, chives
Fruit: raspberries, strawberries, mulberries, black raspberries, melons, rhubarb, apples, pears
Other items: duck eggs, chicken eggs, flower bouquets **our flower bouquets are our staple item (Erin is talented!)**
We are herbicide and pesticide free (organic without the USDA label). And we free range the ducks and chickens.
Q: Is the 2 hours (Option 1 regular schedule) and 4 hours (Option 2 dates selector) total or per person?
A: The hours are total for the option you choose. So, you are welcome to choose option 2 and bring two people out to the farm and work for 2 hours (2 people working for 2 hours = 4 hours). Bring multiple people to reduce the time you are working on the farm.
Q: Can we break up our time and come out for 30 min 4 times in two weeks?
A: Although we will be somewhat flexible, it is most productive for work to be completed in large chunks of time (and easier for us to plan). Please commit to a day (or two) and time every other week (and change it only on an absolutely need be basis).
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: Yes and No. Yes you can bring your kids if, they are old enough to work for the full duration of your time, or you bring someone else to supervise them while you are working your share. No if they in anyway take you away from the required work time.
Q: Does the every other week have to be the same day and time?
A: We would greatly appreciate consistency at all costs. And prefer the weekdays for regularly scheduled work shares. But, we do understand the complexity of everyone's schedule, so just ask us what you are thinking and we can most likely work it out.
Q: What about being gone for a week or two over the summer?
A: We can just shift some days around no problem, we just ask that you communicate as much in advance as possible so we can plan accordingly for your work day/time switch. Bottom line, we need committed help on the farm, so we need you to be able to give us the help in exchange for your CSA share...and we are willing to work out periodic conflicts.
Q: I have a high-schooler, can he/she do the work?
A: If he/she is willing to put in the time commitment to do some manual labor work, and can follow instructions, then absolutely yes.
Q: When will the CSA Share first delivery be and where can I pick it up?
A: The CSA Shares will start mid-end of May and go until late October. Pick ups will be in Oregon at the school district office or a potential other pick up site in Oregon. We can also accommodate delivery to you if it's in Oregon.
Early CSA shares may seem less bulky, but as our harvest becomes abundant the shares fill out in the peak season.
Enjoy the labor and have fun with it. It may just be you with some headphones weeding a bed, it may also be 5 of us tackling a major job with a sense of team accomplishment at the end of our shift. Either way, make sure you are getting something positive out of the experience!
The Farmhouse is dependent on your commitment in helping keep the produce and animals alive and well, please respect the commitment.
The commitment is to be taken seriously so it carries with it some expectations: good communication, the ability to take instructions and to work with speed and accuracy.
You must be ready to work when you arrive. We may or may not be there. If we are, unfortunately your time there won’t be for visiting, it will be for working. Feel free to schedule other times to visit! Bring work gloves/headphones if you’d like, we will provide tools if needed for assigned tasks.
We will work in all weather—this means rain, wind, intense heat, etc. You are responsible for arriving dressed to work comfortably. We will also work in kneeling/bending positions so you should be in pretty good physical health (if you have a restraint, let us know).
Communicate summer absences as far in advance as you know them so we can plan accordingly to get work done around the farm knowing you’ll be gone during certain weeks.
